A Deeper Danger Than the Coronavirus

Dear Patients and Friends,

I was delighted to hear from so many of you after I sent out the blog on Friday, encouraging you to understand that humans have been vulnerable to microbes since the beginning of our history. I love the community connection that we've developed over the years.

I want you to know that the nervous systems of humans are sensitive to anything that threatens our well-being. As you know, the nervous system is what literally controls every function of your physical, mental and emotional body/mind. Therefore, your brain and spinal cord are on high alert right now, and you must consciously take great care of your nervous system.

The Real Danger

From what I can see, the biggest danger affecting humanity is that we're being asked to conform to the ceaseless demands that digital technology dictates. Normally it takes human beings hundreds, or thousands of years, to adapt to a new environmental stress. Most of us are becoming too stressed out trying to keep up with the new, endless ways of relating to each other, including email, social media, texts, etc. These ways of communication minimize our conventional healthy ways of being together, which is face to face, in-person conversation.

Dr. Mark Shillinger

We are being trained to become more and more virtual. I have no doubt that someday, in the not too distant future, humans will evolve into a more artificial being. No judgement. I can accept that. I just am observing this transition time being really difficult for most of us.

Science and common sense confirm that we have more "comforts" than ever and we are more stressed out than ever. On top of this, we now have the coronavirus forcing us into our homes and isolating ourselves even more.

Most primates, including humans, require connection through caring and cooperative relationships.

The Solution

Of course, you should wash your hands with soap and take the other recommended precautions whenever you can.

However, it's just as critical that you focus your mind away from all of the negative news and truly limit your exposure to the regurgitated information that we're being bombarded with. Do you best to connect with people - ideally in person - who are approaching our world-wide challenges with a positive and productive approach.

Do not agitate your nervous system with needless inflammatory conversations. Doing this causes your brain to secrete adrenaline, testosterone and cortisol day long. Living in a fight or flight world is a recipe for a weakened immune system and failing health.

Learn How to Immunize Yourself

The best way to give yourself the best opportunity to successfully work through this stressful time is to learn how to focus your mind and body on activities that develop relaxation and resilience - regardless of what's happening around you.

While I love to teach classes live, I'll be using digital technology to connect with you in my upcoming Master Class on Zoom called, "How to Successfully Adapt to Adversity - Without Anxiety or Anger".

In this class, I'll outline the long history of how humans have become so stressed out, and I'll teach you simple practices - ancestral and modern - that humans have created to help themselves enjoy inner peace and physical health.

CHECK FOR CLASS DETAILS in my next blog later this week, regarding the date and time of this important event.

Remain calm.

True,
Dr. Mark

PS - In order for you feel safe coming to the office for chiropractic care, we are taking these precautions:

    1) I'm washing my hands with soap and water after each treatment.

    2) We're wiping the treatment tables after each treatment
    3) We've suspended having patients sign in, so that they're not using the same pen
    4) We're wiping surfaces that people may touch throughout the day (ex: water pitcher, door handle, etc.)

    5) I'm treating patients with latex gloves on if they request

As far as we can tell, no one working in the office has the symptoms of coronavirus.
