Developing the Attitude of Gratitude
Dear Patients & Friends,
I've been studying with wonderful spiritual teachers from all of the religious traditions since the time I was a teenager and up until this present day. While I was keenly aware that they all did not agree on how to be enlightened or happy, I found it easy to observe one area that they shared common ground.
First and foremost, my teachers said that in order to develop the virtue of gratefulness, I had to actually have a practice that required a specific behavior. I quickly learned that the behavior they recommended always revolved around providing a service to others.
Up until the time I started the nonprofit, Young Men's Ultimate Weekend in the year 2000, I tended to focus my attention on my life being like a glass half empty. By working with parents and teen sons who needed my help, I became aware that my life was richer than I thought. Soon, I was able to notice that my life was a glass half full. Now, twenty years later, I've become so thankful that my life is filled with meaning and fulfillment.
My glass is now full.
Volunteer with Me on Thanksgiving Day
Whether you join us for two minutes or the entire two hours, YMUW will be thankful for your generosity of time. If you want to help yet can't be there, you're welcome to donate money to help us pay for the food.
We've been doing this work for many years and it's awesome being with lots of people - just like you - who care about the welfare of people who do not have as much food as we do.
By the time we go home to our families for the rest of Thanksgiving, we feel happy that we've helped others and had a fun-filled experience.
