How to Get Rich Quick

Dear Patients & Friends,

As a teenager, when I was in college, and up until my mid-thirties, I studied and organized the insightful wisdom about happiness and resilience from the best of the East and the West. I focused my attention in these fields:

  • personal growth
  • spiritual development
  • nutrition
  • exercise
  • Although I studied with many great teachers, they all agreed on only two things that were necessary if somebody was going to be really healthy, happy and holy:

1)the ability to calm down the mind and emotions efficiently
2)the ability to implement a healthy lifestyle regardless of the conditions happening in one's life, or in the world

Because I was a teenager and I didn't have much discipline, I learned the value of having daily routines embedded into one's daily lifestyle. And yet, I still struggled to implement specific practices into my life. I realized that I was not going to be the enlightened person I wanted to become until I could focus my attention and energy on the things that I was taught to do.

I Discovered How to Be Rich

I started implementing a few rituals into my life and noticed that it helped me to calm down and increase my energy. However, I was not very consistent. Sound familiar?

Then, one day, somewhere back in the early 70’s, I was listening to one of my teachers talk about how rich life could be if we put our minds to it. I then decided to call my rituals, “richuals”.

If I could get into the habit of practicing positive and productive beliefs and behaviors, I knew I could get "rich" in the same way that my teacher had achieved. So, here it is, 50 years later, and I am living the rich life that I always wanted to have.

Dealing with The Distress in The World

This past week, one of our patients, Oren, was telling me a story about The Yom Kippur War, also known as the 1973 Arab–Israeli War, fought in October of 1973. It was a war fought by a coalition of Arab states led by Egypt and Syria against Israel.

Oren was telling me that even though there was a time that Israel was badly losing the war, one of the commanders always insisted that the soldiers participate in the same rituals every day, including shaving, showering, exercising, etc. By following their commander’s advice, the soldiers were able to keep their minds and bodies together and eventually won the war.

I'm not telling you this in order to re-create an historical or religious story. I'm telling you this because I am certain that the way to overcome the stress that we are all experiencing right now is to have effective richuals.

When you have developed your own, unique way of keeping your mind, body and spirit together, you’ll be able to trust yourself to consistently, calmly and skillfully navigate through the challenges of your life. The key is to sincerely think, feel and behave as if your routines are amongst the most important things you can do with your life.

THIS PANDEMIC IS THE PERFECT OPPORTUNITY TO FOCUS ON YOUR HEALTH AND WELL-BEING.
