Now Where Am I Going?

Dr. Mark Shillinger

Dear Patients and Friends,

Once again I'll be out of the office following my participation in the food fest in Nu Yawk two weeks ago. I should be going to a weight loss clinic because I haven't (wanted to) lose any of the 23 pounds I gained. I should have known I would gain too much weight when I adopted the holy manta for my trip: "If I'm not sleeping, I'm eating. Om".

Patients often complain to me how difficult it is to lose weight. I've always been afraid of having to deal with this issue as I get older, since we know that it's harder to lose extra pounds as we age. My eating binge forced me to come up with a solution that I can live with.

Just keep the weight on. That's it.

I've decided to simply continue eating from the 4 food groups (pastrami, pastry, pasta & pizza) and enjoy the eternally blissful feeling of Fullness. This is a very advanced Mindfulness practice that should not be done without a bloated mentor.

Serving Families This Weekend

Dr. Matt will be in the office for me this Friday, as I'll be in the South Bay over-seeing the non-profit I founded, the Young Men's Ultimate Weekend, as well as teaching a workshop for parents called, "Raising Your Teenage Son to Be Happy, Responsible & Resilient - Without Nagging, Yelling or Punishing".

I'll be back in the office on Monday.

Last week I hosted a live conference call for parents who wanted to find out about these two programs. I know some patients are interested in what actually happens at these events, so I decided to make the replay available to you.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Monthly Yoga & Meditation Class - Last week was the first of the monthly

yoga and meditation classes I'll now be regularly teaching. This intensive class is for total beginners and also more advanced students. My emphasis is on the mental relaxation techniques that literally take 15-20 seconds to do as well as on increasing the ability for people to focus their mind in a positive, healthy way.

The hatha yoga postures I teach are simple and specifically designed to avoid back pain and increase flexibility. If you really want to master your skills to maintain a supple body and a calm mind, I sincerely recommend that you check out the class to see if it's right for you.

Each session includes stress management techniques, meditation, yoga, spiritual philosophy, personal growth and kirtan (call & response singing).

I feel safe saying that everyone who attended last week was happily surprised by experiencing this unique approach to yoga and meditation.

This intensive class - limited to 8 people - is open to your friends and family, not just patients.

The next class is on Tuesday, August, 21, from 6:30 - 8:30 PM.
