The Luckiest Family Man in The World - Me

Schillinger Chiropractic & Wellness Center

Dr. Mark Shillinger

Dear Patients & Friends,

I know the pain of being a divorced parent.

Dr. Mark Shillinger

I know the pain, the intense feelings that arise from being divorced which can include sadness, shame, guilt, self-doubt and fear. I could write an entire book on how badly I felt by letting everyone down, including Suzanne (my former wife), my children (Becca and Gabe), my parents, my brothers and sister as well as my nephews and nieces.

Thankfully, a few years after the divorce, both Suzanne and I were able to stop our fighting, and join together to have what I now call a "happy married - divorced family".

Suzanne, Becca, Gabe and I have spent the last 20 years learning how to share our lives together. We have found a way to support one another other to have emotionally happy, physically healthy and professionally productive lives.

We are blessed to enjoy birthdays, holidays, and special events together. We all feed off of the respect and love that we have for each other, even when it's in the form of a simple text that simply says, "Love you."

Missing in My Life

I've been blessed to have a respectful, caring and loving relationship with my former wife, Suzanne. In our separate, fulfilling careers (Suzanne is a family therapist), we've been able to help other parents enjoy more cooperative relationships with each other and with their children.

Although I've been so happy to have such a great relationship with Suzanne, I used to feel like an "emptiness" remained in my family life. After my divorce with Suzanne I attempted other romantic relationships in the hopes of having a meaningful relationship with a woman who would want to blend our families together.

For the two decades after my divorce, I had consistently been feeling profoundly happy in the evolution of my personal growth and professional success. I didn't feel like I needed to have a romantic partner to feel "complete" and yet, my love for family life propelled me to remain open to meeting "the right woman" for me.

The Luckiest Family Man

Six years ago, one of my parent educator friends, Shelly Lefkoe, insisted that I meet one of her "available" girlfriends. She introduced me to Rochelle at her annual Valentine's Day party and the rest of the story, as they say, "is history".

Rochelle - who has also experienced the pain of divorce - is a skillful relationship coach. As soon as we met she let me know that she had no problem instructing me how to have a wonderful relationship with her! I was shocked and thankful for her clarity and humor on this subject.

She told me that if we dedicated ourselves to being Curious about each other's needs and giving our best to provide for those needs, we would do a lot better than if we consistently questioned or resisted our needs.

Long story short, Rochelle and I have mindfully practiced what she preaches and the result has been a seamless blending of our two immediate and extended families!

Rochelle and Suzanne get along famously. Together, they provide great wisdom and love for our family.

Trust me, I love to "kvetch" (Yiddish word meaning, "happily whining unnecessarily"). Yet, even I - at least not out loud - can't complain about my family blessings.

How lucky can a dude get? I finally get to be the family man I wanted to be.

We Love Helping Divorced Families

Whether or not you have a divorced family, Suzanne, Rochelle and myself will be teaching you how to release the past pain and disappointment in your family and, more importantly, how to restore unity in your home.

Using healing techniques and practical methods of family unification in our upcoming workshop, every family member can recover, and eventually thrive, from the pain that unhealthy families suffer from.

Workshop Details

All three of us loved our parents and continue to love our siblings, our nephews, nieces and, of course, our own children. It is our life purpose to show other families how to achieve what we already have: family unity.
