Here's What Happened in Seattle
Schillinger Chiropractic & Wellness Center

Dear Patients & Friends,
As you know, I was away in Seattle last weekend attending and presenting at the Ancestral Health Society Annual Symposium, held on the beautiful campus of the University of Washington.
It was great to be around so many scholars and laypeople who all agree that the current technological advances are occurring at such a rapid rate that most of the human population is unable to keep up with these changes. The premise of this Society is that modern humans need to return to some of the practices that our Paleolithic ancestors intuitively knew were healthy for the body and the mind.
This society is not calling for people to return to horse and buggies and shut off all of our electricity. It is, however, strongly suggesting that we pay closer attention to the scientific evidence showing that people are experiencing more stress than ever in the history of the human race.
I know it sounds hard to believe, but other than the times when our ancestral clans were under attack from other clans or unable to find food, their daily life was healthier, and way less stressful, than ours!

My Contribution to the Symposium
I not only enjoyed meeting so many interesting and wonderful people from around the country, as always, I enjoyed being a public speaker.
Instead of standing up on stage, I was part of a group who made what's called a "poster presentation". I made a 3' x 4' poster (that means that Katy did it!) that summarized my presentation, which was called, "Paleo Parenting: How Ancestral Wisdom Can Help Modern Parents Raise Happy, Resilient Children" .
Small groups of people would consistently gather around my poster, read it, and then ask me questions about my work with families and youth rite of passage. I was not surprised to hear how many parents told me that their families are struggling when it comes to dealing with their children in relationship to digital devices and media mania.
Closed Friday Afternoon
I'll be away in Napa this weekend teaching a three day course for parents as well as participating part time at the nonprofit I cofounded, the Young Men's Ultimate Weekend. Therefore, on Friday, September 15, I'll see patients straight through from 9 AM - 2 PM, and then be closed after that.
I'll be back in the office on Monday.
True,
Dr. Mark
