Why Parents & Teens Have a Hard Time Cooperating

Dear Parents & Friends,

Many of you know about my passion for helping parents and their children have better relationships. My desire to help families was heavily influenced by a trip I took to Africa many years ago. I was able to spend some time with a small Samburu clan in Kenya, learning about rite of passage events and studying their philosophy about how to raise children.

When I returned home from that trip, I realized that we, as parents, instinctively possess the intelligence necessary to raise our children effectively. This was enlightening to me because I was a struggling parent trying to figure out how to motivate my then teen son, Gabe, to become more responsible for himself and more cooperative with me.

This made me sad because I felt that I was not doing a great job raising my son, or my daughter. This was especially painful because both my mother and father did a wonderful job raising four rowdy kids.

At one point I decided not to solely blame myself and to look for other reasons why I was not clear how to inspire Gabe and his friends since they were not moving closer toward achieving their true potential. This was happening in my life in the late 1990's.

I eventually decided that the adults had no useful roadmap to guide their children to navigate the rapidly emerging information technology highway. I realized that it was not our fault as parents that we lived in a culture which neglected to educate us how to efficiently steer our family through the distractions of digital dominance, social media, and consumer commercialism.

I Created a Solution for Parents & Their Sons

Over the past twenty years, I've been accumulating insightful information about family dynamics by founding the Young Men's Ultimate Weekend wilderness rite of passage events, mentoring young men privately, coaching parents and leading parenting workshops. This wisdom evolved into a method I created called, "The RIGHT Way for Family Unity®."

Our method of parenting recognizes there's no one right way for parents to have a successful marriage, a cooperative divorce or raise resilient, happy children. This simple step-by-step method of parenting teens uses the practical ancestral wisdom from small tribes, and combines it with the best insight from the sciences of positive discipline, stress management, adolescent brain development, personal growth and parent - teen bonding.

The method allows parents to re-discover their own ancestral parenting wisdom in order to skillfully use their authority, influence and love more effectively.

Live Presentation This Sunday in Mill Valley

On Sunday, April 28, YMUW will be hosting a booth at the first annual Mill Valley Family Wellness Festival (Marin County) from 11 AM - 3 PM. It will be held at the Mill Valley Rec Center. We're excited to be able to showcase the work we do with young men and their parents at this event.

PLUS, I'll be taking a break from the booth in order to teach a 30-minute workshop at 1:30PM called, "How to Have a Great Relationship with Your Teenager".

The talk will talk focus on these three main points:

  1. the reasons why it's harder than ever for teens and parents to have cooperative relationships
  2. the simplest way to diffuse any tension or anger between parents and teens
  3. the most effective way to motivate teens to become more responsible for their own well-being

I'll be available after the talk to answer your questions at the booth!

Please pass this information on to parents that you know who could benefit from this information.

True,
Dr. Mark

VOLUNTEERS 2019 - Without the devoted support of our volunteers, YMUW would not be able to produce its rite of passage adventure camp for the young men. Volunteering at YMUW is often as life-changing for the adults as it is for the young men.

This training is also exellent if you are a father. You'll learn our mentoring technology that's been proven to motivate young men to become more responsible for their own-well being.

Experienced volunteers and new volunteers are welcome to inquire about our required training in order to serve with us. Our next training program is on Saturday, August, 10, with the Bay Area location still to be determined.

Contact us for more information about volunteering at (800) 719 - 9302, or at info@ymuw.org
